F-CHROMA: Solar observations needed 19-27 September 2015

Hello Solar Observers,

F-CHROMA is a research project that focuses on understanding the physics of the solar chromosphere during flares. A part of the project is an observing campaign involving amateur astronomers.

Simultaneous observations by several ground-based and orbital observatories are planned between 19 and 27 September 2015. Amateur images taken in this period are highly requested. Data from small telescopes can provide wider field of view, fill data gaps and be used for comparison with professional observations. H-alpha, Ca-K, Solar Continuum and white light images are welcome. Astronomical cameras as well as DSLRs with RAW mode are suitable.

More information on technical details (including imaging tutorial) and how to get involved in observing campaign can be found on our website:

Please don't forget to subscribe to our newsletter or you will miss observing targets and other important information during the campaign.

F-HUNTERS, the first coordinated observing action of solar flares dedicated to amateur astronomers, starts tomorrow! You can still join and observe along the leading Earth-based and orbital solar observatories.

Observers ready to take the challenge are kindly asked to subscribe to campaign newsletter which will be used to deliver daily observation targets to your inbox. Current target can be also found online and on our social media. http://bit.ly/1MfdbES Please observe the Sun and process your images keeping in mind three golden rules (time, calibration, objectivity). Lucky observers that catch a solar flare may contribute to our flare database. In this case please upload the archive containing final images (saved in lossless format, for example TIFF or FITS) and fill the observation form. http://bit.ly/1FQw4ZU
